Sorting through surviving UNTIM Library books - Nov 2000
What survived of the old UNTIM Library - Nov 2000
|
The UNTL Librarian, Venceslao do Rego, and students sort through the debris of the old UNTIM Library to salvage what they can. These resources had been carefully protected by former students who maintained security on the UNTIM campus.
Forty-five boxes of largely poor quality books, sometimes singed and buckled form the heat of flames, were rescued - half of them student theses.
Also rescued were sports trophies, graduation gowns & mortar boards, a portrait of a former UNTIM Rector and a few desperately needed bookshelves and tables.
It took 3 days for a team of volunteers to transport them across town to the new campus in a borrowed truck.
